Tatung Limited

Tatung Limited was the UK arm of the Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Tatung Company, which brought the Einstein computer to market in 1984 as a business-oriented machine built around CP/M compatibility (Xtal DOS) and a games-friendly Z80 architecture. As the machine's own maker, Tatung supplied the bulk of its official software and documentation: the Einstein's core manuals and hardware diagrams, the 80-Column Display expansion and its own manuals and schematics, BASIC and Logo introductions, SuperForth and BBC Basic, the XtalDOS system disk, and utilities like Cracker and the Microsimplex tool.

Tatung also published "Tatung Einstein User", the official quarterly magazine that ran from 1984 through at least 1987 (Volumes 1 through 3 are represented here), plus an official software and peripheral catalogue, and even distributed a small number of games directly, including ports of Impossible Mission and the original X-Master. With 41 catalogued items, Tatung Limited's own output forms the backbone of this entire archive - the official record of how the Einstein was documented, supported and sold throughout its commercial life.
