About
The programs from Einstein User's September 1987 issue, on one bootable Xtal BASIC disc.
Designer, by J. Hillman, turns typed coordinates and sizes into rectangles, three kinds of triangle, ellipses, polygons and arcs, fills them, and draws lines step by step on a marked grid. Pages 22 and 33.
Datalink is Tatung's own 300 baud terminal program for the serial port, with echo switched by GRAPH O and GRAPH F. Nigel Deakin, pages 26 to 27. Source and a ready to run .COM are both on the disc.
And for anyone with the 80 column unit, Andrew Shone's corrected 80 column version of the Bank Terminal ledger, his rewrite of J. Havies's program from Vol 2 No 2. Pages 23 to 25.
Running them
Boot the disc, type XBAS, then LOAD "DESIGNER" and RUN. Datalink runs from the DOS prompt.
What is in the download
A zip holding the disc as a DSK, the same disc as an MFI for MAME to write to, the listings as BASIC text and as tokenised Xtal BASIC, the Datalink assembler source, and a README.
Verified
Run in MAME 0.289 with Xtal BASIC 4.2 and MOS 1.2. Designer drew every kind of shape. Datalink's assembled bytes match the magazine's printed hex exactly, and run with a serial loopback it displayed what was typed as it came back, and displayed nothing without it. The 80 column Bank Terminal could not be run here: it needs the 80 column unit and its BASIC, and CLS80 is an error on a standard machine. Not run on real hardware.
The scanned issue is on this site as Tatung Einstein User Vol.3.No.3.
