About
The programs from Einstein User's July 1986 issue, on one bootable Xtal BASIC disc.
Bank Terminal, by reader J. Havies of Brentford, keeps a bank account and three credit cards in files on the disc: password first, then deposits, withdrawals, balance, statement and card interest. It is here with the three misprints that stopped it fixed, alongside the listing exactly as printed. Pages 29 to 31.
Karl Dallas's printing functions routine gives every Epson control code a name for use in your own programs, called with a single GOSUB. Again in both forms: as printed, and in a version Xtal BASIC will accept. Pages 9 to 10.
For ZEN users, the Z80 source of Satori, Vincent Davies's line editor for Kuma's ZEN assembler, checked byte for byte against the magazine's hex. ZEN itself is not on the disc. Pages 21 to 28.
Running it
Boot the disc, type XBAS, then LOAD "BANK2" and RUN. The password is CREDIT. The ledger lives in six data files already on the disc, so run it from a writable disc.
What is in the download
A zip holding the disc as a DSK, the same disc as an MFI for MAME to write to, the listings as BASIC text and as tokenised Xtal BASIC, the Satori assembler source, and a README.
Verified
Run in MAME 0.289 with Xtal BASIC 4.2 and MOS 1.2. Bank Terminal was taken through every option, including both passwords, creating and deleting a file, deposit, withdrawal, balance, statement, each card's deposit, withdrawal and interest, and a second run showing the saved date and balance. As printed it fails because it calls CREATE then OPEN on the same file, has a space where the drive number goes, and uses a quoting form Xtal BASIC rejects; the printer routine fails because twelve of its names contain a keyword such as ON, OFF, DEL or DIR. Satori assembles to all 387 bytes printed beside the listing, and was not installed into ZEN. Not run on real hardware.
The scanned issue is on this site as Tatung Einstein User Vol.2.No.2.
