About
The programs from Einstein User's third issue, May 1985, on one bootable Xtal BASIC disc.
Smart Footwork, by Alasdair Thom, a chiropodist in Orkney, is the appointments database he ran his practice on: patients entered, records edited, listed, saved to disc and reloaded, and lists and appointment letters sent to the printer, with the magazine's own instructions for his secretary. Pages 26 to 28.
From Hints and Tips, Julian Rangeley's two short programs write a random access data file and read it back. The read program is here exactly as printed, which does not work, and again as READDAT2 with its two misprints fixed.
Running it
Boot the disc, type XBAS, then LOAD "CHIROPOD" and RUN. The database writes its data files to drive 0, so run it from a writable disc.
What is in the download
A zip holding the disc as a DSK, the same disc as an MFI for MAME to write to, the listings as BASIC text and as tokenised Xtal BASIC, and a README.
Verified
Run in MAME 0.289 with Xtal BASIC 4.2 and MOS 1.2. The database was taken through entering a patient, listing, saving to disc, reloading and listing again, and its printer options return cleanly to the menu with no printer attached. As printed, READDAT fails because CREATE empties the file it is about to read and line 50 is a syntax error. Not run on real hardware.
The scanned issue is on this site as Tatung Einstein User Vol.1 No.3.
