About
An Xtal System 5 disc on XtalDOS 2.05 (“(C) Xtal 1983-87”) with the whole tool set: Xtal BASIC 5.02, the compiler XC.COM (“Xtal BASIC Compiler Ver 5.10”), the XSM assembler (V1.05), the XED screen editor (V1.2), AUTOGEN 2.11, Backup and Copy, HLOAD, TIME with its source, and four demonstration programs.
What sets it apart from X-Master, which carries the same tools, is the run time that compiled programs need: this disc's XR.COM signs on as “Xtal BASIC System Ver 5.00, (c) Xtal 1986-7”, the same build as on the Xtal System 5 master, where X-Master's is 5.10. Its TIME.COM is the earlier build also found on Xtal System 5 on XtalDOS 2.04, and its XSM differs from X-Master's in 14 bytes although both sign on as V1.05.
Files on the Disc
XBAS.COM, XC.COM, XR.COM, XSM.COM, XED.COM, AUTO.COM, BACKUP.COM, COPY.COM, HLOAD.COM, TIME.COM, TIME.ASM, TEST.DOC, and ERASTO, FRUIT, GRUFF and HANGMAN as BASIC source.
Running It
Boots to the XtalDOS 2.05 prompt in MAME and lists cleanly; XBAS starts BASIC and XR the run time. Not tested on real hardware.
About This Image
From Mike's Archive, with thanks (SYS5NO1). A second copy of the same set in the archive, SYS5_105, has damaged copies of XSM and XED, so this one is hosted. Every Crystal program on a System 5 disc carries a three byte serial stamp, so two copies of the same release never match byte for byte; the comparison here sets those bytes aside.
