Xtal BASIC 5.02 signing on from the XtalDOS 2.04 System 5 disc in MAME

About

An Xtal System 5 disc that boots XtalDOS 2.04, its sign on reading “XtalDOS 2.04 (C) Xtal” with the years 1983 to 1986. No other image in the library carries this version of the DOS: the rest boot 2.00, 2.01, 2.02, 2.05 or the 256's 2.05E. XBAS signs on as Xtal BASIC 5.02, “(C) 1983/84/85”, and the compiler XC.COM and the run time XR.COM (“Xtal BASIC System Ver 5.00”) are on the disc with TIME.COM, BACKUP.COM and COPY.COM. Its BASIC, compiler and run time are the same builds as on the Xtal System 5 master, differing only in the three byte serial stamp Crystal put in every copy, and its TIME.COM is the earlier build also on Xtal System 5 With the 5.00 Run Time.

Mike filed it in a folder named XBasic (Xitan), but it is Xtal BASIC, not a separate XBasic product.

Files on the Disc

XBAS.COM, XC.COM, XR.COM, TIME.COM, BACKUP.COM, COPY.COM and CORRUPT.FIL.

The Two Bad Sectors

Two sectors cannot be read. One is in the DOS area of the disc, and it still boots and runs in MAME. The other is the whole of a 512 byte file named CORRUPT.FIL, which looks like a bad sector locked out under a name. Every other file reads cleanly.

Related

The Xtal System 5.0 manual and the compiler manual are in the library, and the 256's version of System 5 is Tatung 256 System Disc (XtalDOS 2.05E).
