About

This is the Einstein Jet Set Willy as Software Projects shipped it, with the Padlock Systems code-sheet protection still working. It was not dumped from a Jet Set Willy disc. It was found as a deleted file on the master of the Einstein Manic Miner and rebuilt byte for byte from the flux; the story is in What the Manic Miner Master Disc Left Behind.

Our other copy, Jetset Willy, is this same build with the protection check patched out; the two differ only in that one region, and the patched copy’s prompt reads “Enter any code! Broken by .mad.”. If you just want to play, that one asks nothing. This one is for anyone who wants the game as it was sold.

Running It

The disc image boots straight into the game. Press ENTER when asked, and the game asks for a code from “your code book”: a square named by page, row and column, four colours typed as digits, blue 1, red 2, green 3, yellow 4, then ENTER. No Jet Set Willy code sheet came with our disc, so the book in the package, JETSET-codebook.txt, is regenerated from the game: the code it expects is a checksum of its own data, and every one of the 1,700 squares can be worked out from the file. The game accepts them; it was checked in MAME. Then answer the joystick question and press SPACE.

Files in the Package

FileWhat it is
JETSET_ORIG.dska disc that boots into the game, no DOS needed
JETSET_ORIG.mfithe same as a MAME flux image, which MAME can save to
JETSET.COMthe program, 27,648 bytes, for a disc of your own
JETSET-codebook.txtthe regenerated code book, 10 pages, rows A to Q, columns 0 to 9

About this File

Recovered in September 2026 from a Greaseweazle flux dump of an original Manic Miner disc, on which it survives as a deleted directory entry whose data was never overwritten. The disc is built with the Einstein Disc Tools. Nothing in the program has been altered.
