About
This is the disc image the site's Devpac80 Companion is written against. Mount it in MAME and it boots to the DOS prompt with HiSoft's Devpac80 ready to use - the editor, the assembler and the monitor - and room to keep what you write.
What Is on It
- ED80.COM and its help file, the full-screen editor. On this copy its commands are CONTROL keys.
- GEN80.COM, the assembler: GEN80 1.06 Copyright (C) HiSoft 1985.
- MON80.COM and MON80.MON, the monitor: MON80 1.05 (C) HiSoft 1985.
- The rest of HiSoft's disc, exactly as dumped: the installers, the Einstein patch and its source, and the sample texts.
- 84K of free space for your own work.
Two Files
devpac.mfi is for MAME. MAME writes to an .mfi, so anything you save is still there next time. devpac.dsk is the same disc as a plain image, for a Gotek or a disc writer and a real Einstein.
Using It
mame -rompath ~/roms einstein -flop1 ~/einstein/devpac.mfi -window -skip_gameinfoThe Einstein boots to TATUNG/XtalDOS 1.31 and the 0: prompt. ED80 HELLO.GEN opens the editor on a new file; CONTROL-K CONTROL-X and ENTER saves it. GEN80 HELLO assembles it to HELLO.COM, and HELLO runs it. MON80 starts the monitor; CONTROL-C leaves it.
Two things worth knowing before you start:
- After a failed assembly, do not run the program. GEN80 leaves the old
.COMon the disc, empty, and running it runs whatever is in memory. - Characters go in double quotes -
LD A,"H"- and strings inDEFM, one per line, with the 0 on aDEFBof its own.
Real Hardware
Nothing on this page has been tried on a real machine. The disc's DOS and tools are the Einstein's own, so it should be no different; if you find that it is, we would like to hear.
How It Was Made
It is the Einstein's XtalDOS 1.31 boot tracks with none of the System Master's files, and the 18 files of the Devpac80 disc in the library - HiSoft Devpac80 - copied on unchanged.
