What has changed in the course since it was first published, newest first. If a section you followed last month reads differently today, this is where it says why.
| Date | Section | Change |
|---|---|---|
| 19 September 2026 | New S33; S34 and S35 renumbered; S1, S2, S6, S31, S32, Appendices II and III, the disc | A new section, S33 Compiling The Game: Xtal's own BASIC compiler runs Mouse In A Hole twice as fast, and the speed is spent on a smoother mouse. The compiler and a compiled copy of the game are now on the disc, which leaves 64K free. What were S33 and S34 are now S34 and S35, with their exercises renumbered to match. |
| 18 September 2026 | S24-S32, S34, Appendix II, the disc | The game now reads the keyboard with a short machine-code key reader added to BASIC (S24), so a held key moves the mouse on every pass and it can jump while running. Jumps are decided at take-off; the mouse turns to face the way it walks; cheese is found by a test at the mouse's nose, including when it lands; the fall is capped so the mouse cannot drop through the floor; the cats never start on the end of their platform. S31 is measured again and rebuilt around making the busiest variables first, and says where BASIC's speed runs out. GAME on the disc is the new version. |
