How to Load a Disk into the Disk Drive on a Tatung Einstein TC-01
- Power on the computer.
Make sure your Tatung Einstein TC-01 is connected to the TV or monitor and switched on. - Insert the floppy disk.
- Hold the disk with the label facing up and the metal shutter end first.
- Gently push it into the drive slot until it clicks into place.
- The drive light may come on briefly — that’s normal.
- Close or latch the drive door (if your drive has one).
Some 3-inch drives have a lever or latch that must be flipped down to secure the disk. - Load software or access the disk.
- The Einstein’s operating system (usually Xtal DOS or MOS) will access the disk automatically if it’s a bootable system disk.
- If it isn’t bootable, you’ll need to boot from your system disk first, then insert your program disk and use the correct command (for example,
LOAD, RUN, or CAT to list files).
- When finished:
- Make sure the drive light is off before removing the disk — this means it’s no longer reading or writing.
- Release the latch (if fitted) and gently pull the disk out.
Tips:
- Never remove a disk while the drive light is on — it can corrupt the data.
- Keep disks away from magnets and dust; store them in sleeves when not in use.
- If the drive doesn’t read the disk, try cleaning the drive heads with a cleaning disk.
