About

Two publications from Crystal Electronics: the Xtal BASIC interpreter book, ISBN 0 9506828 0 2, and the Xtal BASIC Operating Manual, dated 1980.

These matter because Xtal BASIC did not begin on the Einstein. Crystal wrote it years earlier for the Nascom and similar machines, and it arrived on the Einstein in 1984 as a mature product. The pre Einstein manuals are the only way to see what the language looked like before Tatung adopted it.

One Is in a Museum

The Operating Manual is held by the Centre for Computing History in Cambridge, catalogue number CH44187. It is not digitised. The interpreter book appears in catalogue records only; we have not seen a copy anywhere.

Can You Help?

If you have either, please get in touch. Nascom and early Crystal paperwork turns up in collections that have nothing to do with the Einstein, so it is worth a look even if you are not an Einstein owner.
