About

A 256K RAM disc that plugged into the Tatung Pipe, with its software in ROM. It was designed by J A (Tony) Brewer and sold by Tatung, Syntaxsoft, B & H and others between 1986 and 1988, at between seventy and ninety pounds depending on where you bought it and whether you were a user group member.

A RAM disc transformed how the machine felt to use, because the Einstein's real constraint was its floppy drives. That Tatung sold a third party design under its own arrangements says something about how the Einstein's add on market actually worked.

No Manual, ROM Image or Unit

We have none of the three. By 1990 the magazines were reporting that "the RAM disc is no longer available".

Can You Help?

A unit would be wonderful, but the ROM is the urgent part: software in ROM disappears silently when the hardware is scrapped. If you have a Silicon Disc, or just its ROM, please get in touch. We can read ROMs and return the part to you.
