About
A pair of fantasy adventures featuring sprawling maps, roaming monsters, and hidden treasures. You explore dungeons, gather equipment, and solve light puzzles as you uncover the layout of each area. Combat requires attentiveness while exploration rewards curiosity. Atmospheric visuals and a sense of progression give both titles an engaging, old school charm that encourages careful mapping and steady advancement.
The Disc
The download is a flux dump of a Kuma disc, from its original case and inlay: “Kuma Castle Quest & Quest”, Einsoft Approved, catalogue number 17-0014-6. The inlay credits “© J. Wolfencroft 1984”; the programs themselves say “Copyright (c) 1983, John Wolstencroft”. From the inlay: in Castle Quest “You are at the entrance to a 216 room castle on 7 levels, each with its own magic pass. The mission is to locate and retrieve the 3 treasures – Mail of Mithral, Black Crystal and Elf Stone”; in Quest, “You are in a 130 room castle and your hazardous mission is to find and take the four Sectors of the eyes of Morpheus to the eternal fires of hell.”
Curiously, the disc itself carries printed labels from another Einstein publisher, Screensoft, on both sides. Both sides hold the same image sector for sector, laid out the way a commercial duplicator writes, so the game appears to have been duplicated onto Screensoft-labelled stock. The master it was pressed from had been used before: its directory still lists, as deleted files, most of a Tatung System Master, two Dr Logo demonstrations by David Wess dated October 1984, and Kuma’s WdPro.
Running It
From the inlay: boot a System Master, type XBAS, then put in this disc and type RUN "CQUEST" or RUN "QUEST". With XBAS.COM on the disc, XBAS CQUEST works from the DOS prompt.
Files in the Package
| File | What it is |

An earlier, April 1984 demonstration version of Castle Quest is in the library as Castle Quest (Early Demo Version).
About this Dump
Dumped on 26 September 2026 with a Greaseweazle V4 and an original Einstein 3″ drive, and checked with the Einstein Disc Tools. Both sides read all 400 sectors with good checksums on the first pass.
