About

The programs from Einstein User Vol 5 No 2, the Christmas 1990 edition, on one bootable Xtal BASIC disc.

C.B. Forde's WORDLIST keeps a list of words for crosswords: enter, modify, list or print them, search by length or by pattern, erase duplicates and sort. His Function Key Filer saves your function key settings to disc and loads them back. Pages 23 to 32.

With them come the Editor's Star Power, which draws stars and stranger figures from two radii and a number of points, and a battery discharge plotter for the analogue port from Steve Wallis's article, based on Peter Moon's program. The C printer test from Learning The C Language Part 4 is there as source.

Two listings fail as printed and are on the disc as printed, with our corrected copies beside them: VOLTPLT2 fixes four lines of the plotter, and MSUB1C fixes WORDLIST's Enter Words so new words are kept. A sample word file, SAMPLE.DAT, is ours, since the magazine's own data file was never printed. The README lists the smaller faults left as printed.

Running them

Boot the disc, type XBAS, then RUN "WORDLIST" (press 7 and type SAMPLE), RUN "FKEYS", RUN "STARS" or RUN "VOLTPLT2".

What is in the download

A zip holding the disc as a DSK, the same disc as an MFI for MAME to write to, the listings as BASIC text and as tokenised Xtal BASIC, a README saying exactly what was changed and why, and the test notes and screenshots.

Verified

Run in MAME 0.289 with Xtal BASIC 4.2. Every program loaded into BASIC and saved back gives the same program bytes as ours. WORDLIST's options were run on the sample file, printing included. FKEYS saved two keys, loaded them back, and F0 typed the saved word. STARS drew its figures. VOLTPLT2 plotted a simulated battery through MAME's analogue stick. The C was not compiled. Not run on real hardware.
