About
The one type in listing from the third issue of Alternative Micro News, the UK Einstein User Group's magazine of 1990, on a bootable Xtal BASIC disc.
Label Printer, by Stuart Marshall, reads the directories of both sides of a disc off the screen and prints a label with side A the right way up and side B upside down, so both read correctly once the label is folded over the disc. A later version of the same idea appeared in Einstein Magazine No. 77 and is on that issue's disc.
The listing was printed on pages 6 to 7 of the magazine. The issue can be read on Einstein Reborn; our own scan will return to this library once the private addresses printed in it have been removed. This disc saves you typing the program in.
Running It
Boot the disc, type XBAS, then LOAD "LABELPRT" and RUN. It needs two things the disc does not carry: a graphics screen dump routine at address E270 hex (the REMs say DOS 1.31 with GDUMP, the Tatung GDUMP from Einstein User Vol 1 No 4 loaded there) and an Epson compatible printer.
What Is in the Download
A zip holding the disc image as a DSK, the same disc as an MFI for MAME to write to, the listing as BASIC text and as tokenised Xtal BASIC, a README, and the screen capture and MAME script used to test it.
Verified
Transcribed from the scan and run on the Einstein in MAME 0.289 with Xtal BASIC 4.2. It built its inverted character set, showed the directory for each side and laid out the label on a 32 column screen; the call to the dump routine then went into empty memory and dropped into the MOS monitor, as it must without GDUMP there. As printed. Not run on real hardware, and no printer.
The program is its author's, published in Alternative Micro News in 1990.
