About
The one type in listing from the second issue of Alternative Micro News, the UK Einstein User Group's magazine of 1990, on a bootable Xtal BASIC disc.
FACTORS, by Gunter Teichler, from the competition page, finds amicable pairs: two numbers each equal to the sum of the other's factors. Give it a range and it searches.
The listing was printed on page 23 of the magazine. The issue can be read on Einstein Reborn; our own scan will return to this library once the private addresses printed in it have been removed. This disc saves you typing the program in.
Running It
Boot the disc, type XBAS, then LOAD "FACTORS" and RUN, and give it a range such as 1184,1210.
What Is in the Download
A zip holding the disc image as a DSK, the same disc as an MFI for MAME to write to, the listing as BASIC text and as tokenised Xtal BASIC, a README, and the screen capture and MAME script used to test it.
Verified
Transcribed from the scan and run on the Einstein in MAME 0.289 with Xtal BASIC 4.2. Given 1184 to 1210 it found the pair the competition answer names, 1184 and 1210, after about a minute and a half. As printed. Not run on real hardware.
The program is its author's, published in Alternative Micro News in 1990.
