About

Rocket & Giant Maths & Mighty Writer (1984)(Solo Software) which contains three educational games Rocket maths, Giant Maths and Mighty Writer

The inlay, “SOLO GIANT MATHS/MIGHTY WRITER/ROCKET No.17-0038-3”, carries an “Einsoft Approved” badge and describes the three:

  • Rocket Maths: “Terrific maths trainer for the 5-11 year olds. Help the rocket cross the screen by answering correctly. Answer supplied if you get it wrong three times. Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. 4 skill levels.”
  • Giant Maths: “Huge figures for the myopic mathematician. Also humorous messages telling you whether you were right or wrong. Answers supplied if you fail within 3 attempts and 4 levels of difficulty. Tests in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.”
  • Mighty Writer: “Designed with the 5 to 8 year old child in mind, this is a combination of a quiz programme, a spelling test and a teaching system to help the young student to produce neat writing.” Each letter is drawn slowly on screen so the child can copy it on paper, and there are three skill levels.

Running It

The disc does not boot by itself and has no XBAS.COM. The inlay says: “First load BASIC from your System Master Disk by typing XBAS followed by the (ENTER) key. Wait until BASIC is loaded. Next put in this program disk with Side A uppermost and type RUN ‘LOADER’ (ENTER).” A menu then offers (1) Mighty Writer, (2) Giant Maths and (3) Rocket. It still says “Select 1 or 2”, but 3 works.

About this Dump

Dumped on 27 September 2026 from an original Solo Software disc (side A label “GIANT MATHS/MIGHTY WRITER/ROCKET, Load XBAS before loading this disk, ISBN 1 851114076”) with a Greaseweazle V4 and an original Einstein 3″ drive. Side B carries a blank Solo Software label and was never formatted.

Tracks 22 to 26 of side A are weak. They were retried and read a second time, and the images take the best read of each track. Four sectors are still bad in the images, but all four are in unused space: every program is intact and lists identically to the library’s earlier copy. The faults are left in the images as found; the README has the details.
