About
The programs from Einstein User Vol 4 No 4, on one bootable Xtal BASIC disc.
Most of them are Tony Perry's demo disc: a menu, three tunes arranged for the Einstein's three voices (The Entertainer, the theme from Love Story and Smoke Gets In Your Eyes), a full game of Ludo for two to four players with its instructions, and Colour Bars, a display of the Einstein's colours with their names. Pages 16 to 31 of the magazine.
With them is the Editor's Flower Power, which draws a five petalled flower from a polar equation. Page 4.
The printed Ludo stops with an error at line 422, and Flower Power gives a Syntax Error. Both are on the disc exactly as printed, with corrected copies beside them: LUDO4B mends two misprints, and FLOWER2 takes out the extra bracket a reader's letter in Vol 5 No 1 pointed out. Three characters are changed in all.
Running them
Boot the disc, type XBAS, then RUN "PROG" for Tony Perry's menu. Ludo from the menu runs the printed version; to play a game, RUN "LUDO4B". EinstTIME, on the menu, was not printed in the issue.
What is in the download
A zip holding the disc as a DSK, the same disc as an MFI for MAME to write to, the listings as BASIC text and as tokenised Xtal BASIC, a README saying exactly what was changed and why, and the test notes and screenshots.
Verified
Run in MAME 0.289 with Xtal BASIC 4.2. Every program loaded into BASIC and saved back gives the same program bytes as ours. The menu, the three tunes, the Ludo instructions, the colour bars and both Flower Power files were run, and LUDO4B was played to the end with two, three and four players. The music was played and timed but not checked note by note. Not run on real hardware.
The scanned issue is on this site as Tatung Einstein User Vol.4.No.4.
