About
The programs from Einstein User Vol 4 No 3 on one bootable Xtal BASIC disc.
The centrepiece is Alan Wilkins's The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba, Handel arranged for the Einstein's three voices: 89 bars, with a title panel, and the little helper program from his article. Pages 20 to 30.
J.P. Barker's Tasword to ASCII convertor turns Tasword files into plain text. As printed it writes nothing to the new file, so the disc carries the listing exactly as printed as TASASCII and our corrected copy, two characters changed, as TASASC2, with a small test file to try it on. From the Feedback pages come Mr J. Crane's joystick routine, which flies a sprite ship with an analogue joystick, and David Rose's jazz arrangements for the alarm in the System Master's CLOCK program. The C examples from the first part of Learning the C Language, by The Man in the Mountains, are there as source.
Running them
Boot the disc, type XBAS, then LOAD "SHEBA" and RUN. MODCLOCK holds lines to merge into CLOCK.XBS from the Einstein's System Master disc, which is not on this disc.
What is in the download
A zip holding the disc as a DSK, the same disc as an MFI for MAME to write to, the listings as BASIC text and as tokenised Xtal BASIC, a README saying exactly what was changed and why, and the test notes and screenshots.
Verified
Run in MAME 0.289 with Xtal BASIC 4.2. Every BASIC file loaded into BASIC and saved back gives the same program bytes as ours. SHEBA drew its title panel and played all 89 bars without an error. TASASC2 converted the test file correctly, twice. The joystick routine moved the ship in all four directions. The CLOCK tunes played once merged into CLOCK on a scratch disc. The C was not compiled. Not run on real hardware.
The scanned issue is on this site as Tatung Einstein User Vol.4.No.3.
