About

Super Chess is a chess program for the Tatung Einstein, published by Kuma. The program’s own title reads “SUPER CHESS (C) Chris Whittington 1984”, and the disc label “SUPERCHESS © 1984 Kuma Computers Ltd.”

From the case:

This superbly presented chess package offers seven levels of play from easy to downright difficult. The first four levels play within tournament time limits, and level zero responds immediately. It features an Alpha-numeric screen display of the chess board and pieces and offers a sizeable library of opening moves. Recommended move option in case you get stuck. Analyse mode, allows you to set up any position.

The Superchess manual is in the library.

Running It

Boot the disc and type CHESS. During play you can type R for a recommended move, S to let the computer play your move, or X to resign or enter analyse mode.

About this Dump

Dumped from an original Kuma disc, boxed with its manual, using a Greaseweazle V4 and an original 3-inch drive on 3 October 2026. Both sides hold the same data, sector for sector, and boot XtalDOS 1.11. The program is the same as the SUPCHESS.COM long in the library, which carries 1,536 bytes of blank padding on the end. All 400 sectors of each side read with good CRCs on the first pass. The zip holds both sides as raw flux (.scp), MAME images (.mfi) and sector images (.dsk), with nothing cleaned up.
