Tatung Einstein Diagnostic Eprom firmware image

When repairing or restoring an Einstein  enthusiasts often use a special diagnostic ROM/EPROM — a custom-programmed EPROM for the TC01 that contains test routines rather than the standard MOS. You insert this in an available ROM socket (or replace the original) to help diagnose hardware faults (CPU, RAM, I/O, etc.).

This diagnostic EPROM is not a standard “built-in” part of the original machine, but rather a piece of homebrew community firmware created to assist with testing and repair.

You can down load the images from Gifhub to start the journey.

Please check out our guide for more details on creating an image on a EPROM chip for the Tatung Einstein TC01. and 256 computers.

A disk image of the diagnostic from the Factory for the TC01 & 256 will be available soon.

I grew up with early access to the Tatung Einstein thanks to my stepfather’s work at Decca/Tatung. While friends had ZX Spectrums and C64s, our family proudly used a TC01. Years later I rediscovered it—alongside the Tatung 256—and saw the potential these machines still hold. This site is dedicated to keeping the Einstein alive: building tools, sharing knowledge, and inspiring new coders to explore BASIC and beyond.
