Welcome

TatungBytes: The Home of the Tatung Einstein

Who We Are

TatungBytes was created by Adam Groome and Gavin Watson, two enthusiasts who share a lifelong passion for the Tatung Einstein. Adam is a dedicated collector with one of the largest collections of Einstein TC01 and Einstein 256 hardware and software, while Gavin’s journey began when the TC01 became his very first computer. Adam’s focus has always been on preservation, ensuring that manuals, discs, and software are not lost to time. Gavin, meanwhile, is driven by the challenge of programming in assembly and has long dreamed of writing a game for the Einstein. What started with a rare monitor sale between the two quickly became a collaboration. Their shared vision turned nostalgia into action, and TatungBytes.co.uk was born.

Why it Matters

The Tatung Einstein is more than retro hardware. It represents a crucial chapter in British computing history, a machine that captured the imagination of hobbyists and developers in the 1980s. By preserving and showcasing the Einstein, TatungBytes celebrates its legacy and makes it accessible to a global community. At the same time, the site encourages new generations to explore assembly programming, blending history with hands-on learning.

What You'll Find Here

TatungBytes is designed to be a complete resource for the Tatung Einstein. Visitors will find guides to assembly programming, tutorials on original software and modern emulators, walkthroughs for hardware setups such as the 80 column card and the Speculator, and detailed explanations of system features. The site also hosts emulator ready disc images, scans of artwork, packaging, and manuals, along with articles, programming documentation, and other resources. Beyond preservation, it provides a platform for enthusiasts to contribute their own guides, blogs, and tools, and includes a directory of collectors, repair specialists, and fellow enthusiasts. At its heart, TatungBytes is a hub for learning, sharing, and keeping the Einstein alive for future generations.
