Around six months ago, I began searching for ways to expand the games catalogue for the Tatung Einstein. Unfortunately, I didn’t have much success when asking around various 8-bit communities. Many of the skilled Z80 programmers were already busy working on new projects for other systems, particularly the ZX Spectrum Next.
As mentioned in a previous TaungBytes blog post about the ported game Beach-Head, a talented member of the Enterprise 64/128 community—known as Mr. Geco on the EnterpriseForever.com forum—stepped forward and successfully converted the MSX version of Beach-Head to run on the Einstein.
Mr. Geco has been explaining he's approach to modifying the MSX ROM and adapting it for the Einstein. Recently, he did it again—this time converting the MSX ROM of Tetris, a process that took him less than an hour to complete. I have tested his conversion on both the TC01 and 256 models, and it runs perfectly.
He has generously provided a complete, step-by-step explanation of how to convert most MSX game ROMs to the Einstein. A written guide will be prepared soon, and I hope that with the help of those who read these blog posts, we can convert even more titles. The aim is to share these game images so that everyone can enjoy and experience titles that have never before been available on the Tatung Einstein.
